Technology Blog #6: Building Your Connected Learning Community and why it applies to my major
In chapter six, "Building Your Connected Learning Community," the author discusses the importance of connecting online. This chapter covers topics such as starting a personal learning network to tips on getting started online with blogs, Twitter, and Delicious. It also highlights the importance of researching an individual's background before you follow them. The author wrote, "Who you follow depends a great deal on the purpose or focus of your network." For example, let's say that a person blogs about something you disagree with or how they manage their classroom, you should be aware that maybe they are not the right person to follow.
Additionally, this chapter wants you to think about certain questions before you interact with online communities. The network is where you find ideas and information to share with your professional learning community and community practices to develop learning skills and create research to take to your school. Learning is not only just about what you want to learn but also about how communities collect information and share it with others to build and improve together.
In Graphic design not only is it about the software or the design, but it is also about getting feedback and trying to engage with the design communities to improve and grow. For example, a designer trying to showcase their work and get feedback could use apps, such as Behance or Dribble. Where they can get responses from professionals to gain more knowledge and inspiration. Even struggling with color theory or typography, searching online courses or design groups on social media can help. Engaging with these communities shapes a designer’s success by providing opportunities for networking, exposure, and collaboration, which can lead to freelance work, job offers, or mentorship from experienced designers. Graphic design thrives by exchanging ideas, critiquing work, and staying up to date, making collaboration an essential part of my career.

Hi Ashley!
ReplyDeleteI think it is really important that you said getting feedback and trying to engage to improve and grow is crucial to having the best outcome. The apps you listed sound very interesting as well, that is cool that professionals can view your work! I agree that communities can help expand your ideas and make them the best.
I really like your view on stuff that people are struggling with, taking it as something to work on rather than something to ignore, one of my close friends works as a graphic designer and is always telling us how there are always more specifics to be shown in what he's trying to illustrate. Without input from the engineers he's working with he would be lost
